Top notch. As a marketing consultant to independent professionals and small service busineses, I found this book to be outstanding. For example, the book describes how a new trend for professionals and consultants who want to woo and win new clients is to offer teleclasses, also known as telephone seminars or teleseminars. The book explains that having heard you speak, people feel they know you personally, and are more confident about hiring you. The advantages are abundant. You don't have to be personally present to give a talk that reaches your target market, says Van Yoder. Online chats and teleconferences, using your own or others' telephone lines, can help you reach a lot of people eager to hear your message. The book is filled with great advice like this.

The Power of Unfair Advantage: How to Create It, Build it, and Use It to Maximum Effect Review

The Power of Unfair Advantage: How to Create It, Build it, and Use It to Maximum Effect

Yes, there is an element of CEO / Venture Capitalist / etc. in this book, and while that crowd may constitute a large SEGMENT of the audience, there is valuable information here for sole proprietors, small business owners, and others. PERFECT example: Page 122, "Flanking." Nesheim discusses the need to roll out your product or service in an "uncontested area," stating "If there is an entrenched leader of the market you are planning on dominating, you are too late and have nothing to flank into...The only thing left is to try a better, faster, cheaper product for the existing market. But that has virtually no chance of winning." Anyone who passes this book by on the premise that it is for CEOs and their ilk is making a big, big mistake if they want to succeed in their own business. There are additional chapters on business development, marketing, sales...all written by a guy who witnessed "Silicon Valley" from the ground up. If more small business owners read well-written business books like this one, fewer small businesses would have "going out of business" sales.

Author John Nesheim begins with a clear model: outsource everything you are not good at, concentrate on those things that can be differentiated, and strive for a unique, consistent difference that cannot be copied. Integrating these maxims with other essential elements, he demonstrates, with dozens of case studies, how to orchestrate unfair advantage through marketing, sales, engineering and operations. Unfair advantage can take many forms. Pager maker RIM rocketed to the top of the mobile wireless email market with Blackberry by employing an unfair advantage that they alone possessed - pager technology and pager infrastructure. Alternately, an unfair advantage can come from a unique relationship with a strategic alliance partner, as when Flextronics pulled Handspring out of a life-threatening crisis. THE POWER OF UNFAIR ADVANTAGE is an essential handbook for every manager who is responsible for introducing a new product or service and every entrepreneur and would-be who plans to start a company.

The McGraw-Hill 36-Hour Course: Online Marketing (McGraw-Hill 36-Hour Courses) Review

I gave this book a 5-star rating, yet wished I could have awarded 10-star ranking. Lorrie Thomas--not a born techie, but an entrepreneur who developed her skills incrementally (as most of us have to do)--asserts at the outset that the "true meaning of marketing is maximizing relationships." Using the tools and strategies she recommends, you will be able to enrich your current professional relationships and cultivate new ones far more rapidly.
Once you have completed reading this book, you will go back to it constantly as a valuable resource for strengthening your online presence.
Have you started small with your Web marketing? Then follow Lorrie Thomas' advice: "Start small, then snowball."
You will be amazed at the depth of the author's research, and so pleased that she illustrates her information in clear and often witty language.
My prediction: You will decide that purchasing, reading, and applying this book was one of your wisest professional steps.

New Product Launch: 10 Proven Strategies Review

New Product Launch: 10 Proven Strategies

I'm a small 2 person business based in Australia looking to release a new product, but this book is written for and ideal only for multimillion dollar, international companies with gigantic million dollar launch budgets, and with access to hundreds of staff to gather a "Launch Team".
Small businesses need more advice than multimillion dollar company's and given the expertise of the authors I believe they missed their boat in their own target audience for this product.
While this book does have the occasional tip or two, they are very few and far between; most of the copy refers back to a study they conducted, making for a book full of facts and statistics, not hands on, step by step advice.
If you can't find anything else to assist you, then for sure, take a read of this, but otherwise, keep looking. I found it hard to motivate myself to continue and finish it.
Wish I could be more positive, but I'm going to stick with my Guerrilla Marketing series of books, inspiring, motivational and practical!

Streetwise Complete Publicity Plans: How to Create Publicity That Will Spark Media Exposure and Excitement Review

Streetwise Complete Publicity Plans: How to Create Publicity That Will Spark Media Exposure and Excitement

I have actually never posted a review on Amazon.com before, but this book was so useful, I felt compelled to share my thoughts with other readers attempting to sift through the wide variety of publicity books out there. After researching publicity books and reading other customer reviews, I settled on seven books in order to cover all of the bases and have a clear overview of my promotional options.
The other publicity books run from bland college textbook style to pages filled with useless fluff or information that may have been pertinent twenty years ago. One big tip: don't buy a book that was not published recently because there is no information about using the internet! If you are planning to buy a book over the internet, it only makes sense that the book itself should at least mention using the internet, and "Complete Publicity Plans" has the most comprehensive internet coverage of any of the books I have read.
In addition to being educational, it is written in a way that keeps the reader captivated and the author's vibrant sense of humor shines through the text. There are tons of real world examples, including the press release that created amazing publicity results for the author. Many of the other books seemed to be written by "experts" in an ivory tower, but this author has actually achieved the success that we are all seeking, so her advice comes from the perspective of success, not pure theoretical analysis.
The bottom line: "Complete Publicity Plans" is one title that doesn't lie, and while I have read this book more than once, the others are literally collecting dust, so if you only buy one publicity book, this is absolutely the one you want! It provides all of the tools you need to succeed and achieve your publicity goals, the next step is putting those tools to work for your own business, which is what I plan to do.
